So I bin cycling in lots of countries - France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Denmark. It's a long story, see the blog for details. Now we're back for a little while, we're lucky to have somewhere to stay, but it's a pain in the arse when that place is overflowing with boxes of all the crap you're storing. It's so much simpler living out of panniers - all the stuff you "need" is hundreds of miles away in some box, and you realise you don't need it that much after all.
Made a lousy attempt at wedding plans this week while visiting parents, during which we tentatively set a timescale of Spring 07 and a location of "around here somewhere", and after which my mother started setting deadlines of "we want a date and a location when we next see you in four weeks" (we're not back down that way until then and would have no chance to look at venues) Fair enough, you need to get in early with the venues, and on the way home we realised we're travelling too much to have the time to organise all this so let's leave it a while.
It was also suggested, multiple times, that I use my old school as the venue (my family has long standing ties with the school, both parents have worked there, my dad still does, me and my sister went there and i was christened there) - I knew it was going to get suggested, so I already had a firm no thank you in my mind - nice grounds and everything, but school was not a pleasant experience and I have some pretty crappy memories there.
So we're probably putting it off for a while longer until we decide to make the time to do it right - this could easily turn into a 3-year engagement and take things past our 10-year anniversary! Our travelling time is precious, we have a few years before little people start rocking our world so let's make the most of it.
Right now I'm looking forward to going to Bratislava in a couple of weeks, where in the name of cheapness we have booked into student halls hostel accommodation for 8 nights, slightly dubious but hey, we'll bring earplugs and stuff. :)
